Yousef

Greeting,

My name Is Yousef; I served honorably and with distinction as an interpreter for the Marines in Helmand, Afghanistan. After working as an interpreter for three years, I was able to immigrate to the US and follow my dreams. But, unfortunately, my family couldn’t immigrate with me to the US because of the limited number of visas.

When I was finally settled down in the US, I decided to go to college and follow my dream career in the medical field because America is the land of opportunity. Currently, I am a fourth-year college student, and I am determined to go to medical school after earning my bachelor’s degree in science. When I wake up every day, there is only one thing in my mind: to affect many American lives positively. This feeling motivates me and gives me a reason to follow my dream and become a medical doctor one day.

Four years ago, I traveled to Afghanistan and married the girl I love, we were happy, and I often traveled back to Afghanistan to visit her. When the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, we were disappointed, and I desperately searched for help, but there was no buddy to help my family flee Afghanistan. My family tried to flee the country, but they were turned away every time they went to HKIA. My wife almost got killed by a suicide bomber at HKIA when trying to get inside the airport.

My family made many attempts to get inside HKIA, but they couldn’t make it inside the airport. They were all disappointed until my wife was contacted by a kind lady named “Jessica T” from Task Force Argo. My wife was instructed to a safe house, and she was kindly provided everything she needed it. Ms. Jessica and her team finally evacuated my wife from Afghanistan, and she is safe now.

My family and I want to take the time and thank you, Ms. Jessica, and your team, which anonymously worked hard to shelter my family and save their life. This is what America is about!
